New England Center and the University of New Hampshire are committed to sustainability.

The University of New Hampshire was one of 11 universities nationwide to receive the top score in a new "Green Rating" of colleges, The Princeton Review announced in July 2008. The Princeton Review collected data from 534 schools in the 2007-08 academic year to tally numerical scores from 60 to 99 that measure how environmentally friendly schools are in their policies, practices, and academic offerings. UNH, with a perfect score of 99, is on The Princeton Review's "Green Honor Roll."

At the New England Center, we discover new ways to operate more sustainably all the time. Here are some of the ways we show our commitment to conservation and the environment:

  • Paperless check-in

  • Spring water bubblers instead of bottled water

  • All paper products, from note paper to coffee cups, are recycled or compostable

  • Local produce and meats served whenever possible

  • Vegetable oils from our kitchen are used in the development of biofuel

  • UNH partnered with Waste Management to develop a pipeline to the University's CoGen plant, turning methane gas into energy for use throughout the campus

  • Proposals, contracts, and correspondence are handled electronically unless requested otherwise

  • Coffee roasted by NH Coffee Roasters, whose facility is five miles from the Center

  • Energy efficient lighting used throughout

  • Motion-activated sink faucets and hand dryers in public baths

  • Low flow showerheads and commodes in our hotel room baths

  • Bulk amenity dispensers in our hotel room baths--wonderful quality, no more little plastic bottles

  • Recycled material hotel key cards

  • Hotel linen reuse program

  • Green cleaning products

  • Minimal landscaping with primarily native plants

  • No VOC paints used throughout

New England Center is a member of the NH Sustainable Lodging Program, It's A Green, Green World, and approved by Ecorooms & Ecosuites.
